All of my writings in Basic English are called "Practice Basic English" followed by a number. This is "Practice Basic English 1".

 You can read about Basic English in Wikipedia.org in your own language but the best information about Basic English is in the English Wikipedia. If you look at the English and then you look at it in your language you will see that the information in your language is so much smaller. This says something about the English language. If you learn English, you will be able to read more information than if you just read about it in your own language. So, the real reason why English is so important is so that people can get more information. For example, in Wikipedia there are over 5 million articles in English but only 1 million in Spanish plus the articles in Spanish are not complete. There are over 1 thousand editors in English but only 71 editors in Spanish. Do you see the need to learn English to have more information?

But the sad thing about teaching English on the internet is that people do it for money and only for money. People say I, too, should ask for money when I teach English on the internet. I teach English because I like to help people and I know that if they learn English it always helps them. A little English helps people a little and a lot of English helps people a lot. No matter how much English you learn, it always helps you. No one has ever been sorry for knowing English.

I started teaching English in 1974 and no one ever told me that English never did them any good. English is always important for many jobs and it is important to talk to other people in other countries, even countries that do not speak English. If you need to talk to someone from Russia on Skype or Facebook, the person in Russia cannot speak Spanish and you cannot speak Russian, but you both know English and can talk in Basic English. If you contact someone on Facebook in Sweden, you don’t know Swedish and he does not know Spanish, but you both know English and you are free to chat. Do you see how important English is? English is not just for the United States and England; it is for the world from China to Bolivia, from Chile to Viet Nam.

Empecé a enseñar inglés en 1974 y nunca nadie me dijo que el inglés no le hizo ningún bien. I think even very poor people, people with no money, can learn English for free. A poor boy that lives in Bolivia cannot pay thousands of dollars to learn English at the C.B.A. that is the place that I started to teach at in 1974. I stopped teaching there because I saw that all they wanted was money; it is a business. They pay the teachers little and charge the students a lot. That is why I have BasicEnglish.org and that name means Basic English Organization, it is for every country in the world, not just Bolivia where I live, and it is free and always will be free. I make it free so that even very poor people with no money can learn English. If they learn English it can help them to learn more things that will help them have a little more money for the important things like eating better food, living in a better house and to see a doctor when they get sick.

 I did not start Basic English. Basic English started in 1930 by a man named Charles Kay Ogden. He thought English should be free and that it should also be easy. Many people used Mr. Ogden’s way of teaching. One person was Augusto Ghio D. from Chile in 1951. Both Ogden and Ghio books are free on BasicEnglish.org and it is for students and for teachers to use.

This English is simple and easy to understand. The words to learn are few and with these few words you can make so many different sentences. These sentences are not found in books. They are sentences you make because you are thinking in English. You do not need to copy sentences in English that are in books. You need to make sentences in English that comes from the thinking in your head, not in someone else's head.

Este inglés es simple y fácil de entender. Las palabras para aprender son pocas y con estas pocas palabras se pueden hacer tantas frases diferentes. Estas frases no se encuentran en los libros. I have asked my English speaking friends and family on Facebook to join in helping me with BasicEnglish.org and I did this because I thought they would like to help. But some in the United States haven written me and said that they think Basic English is stupid. They make fun of people who try to learn English. They have the thinking that if you cannot speak English the same as an American then you should not speak English. People who have this thinking do not understand what Basic English is all about. They think the only English that is good English is the difficult English and that people who learn this English are better than people learning and practicing Basic English. Please do not listen to people who think that only school English is good and Basic English is stupid. When you are good at Basic English you can learn school English by reading books in English, first easy ones and then ones that get a little harder little by little. Please do not listen to people who say you need to go to a university to learn the right way to learn English. You can learn English just by practicing Basic English on the internet for free.

There is such a big difference between Basic English and school English. I have been a teacher of English since 1974. That is more than 42 years of teaching English. I do not like school English because it makes people feel better than others. For example, if the teacher gives you an exam and you get 100% and another student gets only 70%, then you feel you are better because you got 100% and he got 70%. But are you really better? Just because you learned some words that you forget tomorrow, it does not make you better. I do not think this kind of teaching is good thinking for the teacher or the student.

Hay una gran diferencia entre Inglés Básico e inglés academico. He sido profesor de inglés desde 1974. Eso es más de 42 años de la enseñanza de inglés. No me gusta el inglés académico porque hace que algunas personas se sientan mejores que otras. English is not the same as mathematics. English is a language, mathematics is not. We learn language by ourselves with no teacher but we did not learn mathematics by ourselves with no teacher. We do not need to go to school to learn English or to learn any language. However, we do need to go to school to learn mathematics.

Inglés no es el mismo que la matemática. Inglés es un lenguaje, las matemáticas no lo son. Aprendemos el lenguaje por nosotros mismos sin ningún maestro, pero no aprendemos las matemáticas por nosotros mismos sin ningún maestro.
