Capítulo 7.- “SENTENCIA DE OCHENTA AÑOS POR PREDICAR EL EVANGELIO”

ONE DAY just before our trial was due to begin a group of men came into Bethel and asked to see J. F. Rutherford. Since he was busy at the time l asked them:

UN DÍA poco antes que comenzara nuestro juicio un grupo de hombres entró en Betel solicitando ver a J. F. Rutherford. Puesto que él estaba ocupado en ese momento, les pregunté:

"Gentlemen, what do you desire?" "Well," the spokesman said, "we represent an organization that is interested in civil liberties and we want to know something about this prosecution. We read in the paper about your arrest."
"As far as we know, gentlemen, it is just the anger of one powerful religious organization working against us because we have exposed some of their false teachings."

– ¿Qué desean, caballeros?
– Verá –respondió el portavoz–, representamos a una organización interesada en las libertades civiles, y nos gustaría saber algo más acerca de este proceso judicial. Nos hemos enterado por los periódicos de que les arrestaron.
– Que yo sepa, señores, se trata solo de la furia de una poderosa organización religiosa que nos ataca porque hemos desenmascarado algunas de sus enseñanzas falsas.

"Don't fool yourself, sir, it isn't just one organization that is active against you. There is a definite campaign on to stop your work."
"How do you know that?"
"We are interested in such things and this kind of activity is rampant just now. There are a large number of minority groups that are not popular and those in certain places of authority are pouncing on them, trying to wipe them out, and is what they are going to do to you if they can."
That is what proved to be the case.

– No se engañe, caballero. No se trata solamente de una organización activa contra ustedes. Hay toda una campaña en marcha para detener su obra.
– ¿Cómo sabe eso?
– Nos interesan estos asuntos, y ese tipo de actividades están muy extendidas en este momento. Hay un buen número de grupos minoritarios impopulares, y algunas personas que ocupan ciertos puestos de autoridad están arremetiendo contra ellos, tratando de hacerlos desparecer; y eso es lo que harán con ustedes si pueden.
Y efectivamente así fue.
