INGLÉS BÁSICO GHIO - LECCIÓN 4
3. DO y MAKE
Hay en inglés dos verbos diferentes, DO y MAKE, para indicar el verbo castellano hacer.
Aunque hay algunas excepciones, la regla general para el correcto uso de estos verbos indica que se debe usar:
Make: cuando se desea expresar la idea de FABRICAR ALGO
Do: cuando se desea dar la idea de HACER ALGO INMATERIAL.
Por medio del estudio de las frases que siguen podrá adquirir usted una idea general de cuándo debe usarse make y cuándo do.
I will MAKE a house – yo HARÉ una casa
I will DO that tomorrow – yo HARÉ eso mañana
They are MAKING bread – Ellos están HACIENDO pan
He is DOING his work – El está HACIENDO su trabajo
She MADE that dress – ella HIZO ese traje
I will do that first – yo haré eso primero
Make a table – haga una mesa
Do as I say – haga como yo digo
Do that – haga eso
Expresiones Usuales.
Aprenda de memoria las expresiones que siguen:

One day (uán déi) – un día
Tonight (tu náit) – esta noche
This morning (dis móoRning) – esta mañana
On purpose (on péeRpes) – a propósito
Yearly (yiarli) – anualmente
Every day (evRri dei) – cada día
To the right (tu di ráit) – a la derecha
To the left (tu di léft) – a la izquierda
No doubt (nou daut) – sin duda
PALABRAS COMPUESTAS.
Como ya se ha explicado antes, es muy común en inglés el uso de palabras compuestas, y conviene que el lector se familiarice con esta característica de la lengua inglesa, para lo cual le damos otro grupo de palabras, que deberán ser aprendidas de memoria.
Day – día
Light – luz, liviano
Daylight – luz del día (literalmente “dia-luz”)
Back – espalda, atrás
Bone – hueso
Backbone – espina dorsal (literalmente espalda-hueso)
Rain – lluvia
Water – agua
Rain-water – agua de lluvia (lluvia-agua)
Salt – sal
Salt-water – agua salada
Tooth – diente
Tooth-brush – cepillo dental
Hair – pelo, cabello
Brush – cepillo, escobilla
Hair-brush – cepillo para el pelo
Fruit (frúut) – fruta
Tree (trii) – árbol
Fruit-tree – árbol frutal
